Whether it’s a stray splash or just heavy humidity in the air, moisture finds a way inside the housing. Once that happens, you’re looking at short circuits or rusted-out heating elements. It’s a headache nobody needs. That’s why we build our best-selling units to IP55 standards.
What does IP55 actually do for you?
It’s not just a fancy code on a spec sheet. That first ‘5’ means we’ve sealed the chassis tight enough that dust can’t get in and cause the unit to overheat. The second ‘5’ is the important part: it means the heater can handle water jets hitting it from any angle. We use heavy-duty gaskets and sealed cable entries to keep the water away from the electrical terminals. This stops that dreaded “burn out” that happens when moisture creates a bridge between live components.Basically, it keeps the electricity where it belongs.
The hidden danger of fog and condensation
Fog is a silent killer. Think about it: you’ve got a scorching hot quartz tube, and suddenly cold moisture settles on it. That thermal shock can crack the glass instantly. To stop this, we designed the housing to keep air moving. No stagnant pockets of moisture. This also keeps the reflectors shiny. When reflectors get dull from corrosion, they stop pushing heat toward your workpiece. Then, the heater has to work twice as hard to do the same job, which just kills the element faster.
A few things to keep in mind
Here’s the catch: when you seal a unit to keep water out, you’re also trapping some heat in. Because you can’t rely on open-air venting, you need to give the unit some breathing room. If you cram these into a tight machine footprint, the temperature will spike and trip the thermal cutout.Give it some space. And please, do yourself a favor: use moisture-rated conduits for the wiring. If you use standard open-ended wires, you’re basically leaving the front door open for corrosion to crawl right back into the system.
