A facility manager can just tap an app on their phone, and the floor warms up almost instantly. How it actually works To get that “instant spring” feeling, we have to bridge the gap between the heavy-duty power the heaters need and the low-voltage signals a smart controller sends. We use a smart gateway to talk to a heavy-duty contactor or a solid-state relay (SSR). The SSR does the heavy lifting, snapping the heaters on without the wear and tear you’d get from a physical switch. We also usually throw in PID controllers. That just means the system is smart enough to stop heating before it overshoots the mark, so you aren’t burning money on electricity you don’t need. The feel of it The best part? It’s immediate. If you use forced-air heating, you’re basically trying to warm up a giant bubble of air in a warehouse. That takes forever. Infrared is different. The lamps hit peak heat in seconds. Plus, with smart scheduling, you can set specific work zones to warm up ten minutes before the shift starts. Your team walks in and it’s already comfortable. No shivering while they wait for the building to “catch up.” A few warnings But look, this adds some complexity to your electrical panel. You can’t just plug these into a cheap smart plug from a big-box store. The power draw on industrial arrays is massive—you’ll melt a consumer-grade socket in no time. You need industrial relays that can actually handle the load. And a quick tip on your network: if your warehouse has Wi-Fi dead zones, your “one-click” remote start is going to fail you. It’s frustrating to be freezing and have the app tell you the device is offline. We always suggest hard-wiring the gateway with Ethernet. It’s the only way to make sure the heat actually kicks in during a cold snap.
