
Getting Low-E Glass Preheating Right at Scale
If you’re preheating wide-format Low-E glass, you already know the headache: sagging and spotting. There’s nothing worse than seeing a dip in temperature across the width of your conveyor. When you’re dealing with glass wider than 3 meters, those standard, off-the-shelf IR lamps just don’t do the job. That’s why we build these as continuous, ultra-long heating units. No gaps. No cold zones. Just steady heat. The struggle with the 3-meter mark Going big—like 3+ meters—isn’t as simple as just buying a longer lamp. You run into real-world problems like voltage drops and thermal expansion. We handle this by obsessing over the wattage-per-centimeter. We make sure the edges of the glass get the exact same heat as the center. You can’t just string a few lamps together and hope for the best; that’s a recipe for disaster. You need a synchronized electrical layout. We balance the power across several zones so the ends don’t burn out while the middle is still warming up. Keeping things from snapping At this length, a quartz tube is fragile. It’s a liability. To fix that, we use heavy-duty ceramic end caps to lock everything in. These do the heavy lifting. They keep the electricity insulated, sure, but they also act as a cushion. Quartz expands and contracts every time you cycle the heat. Without those ceramic housings, the tube wouldn’t have room to breathe, and you’d end up with snapped filaments or cracked seals. Putting it into practice We designed these to be drop-in replacements for wide-format Low-E tunnels. Using a continuous array is just smarter—fewer connectors means fewer things that can break. But a heads-up: running 3-meter units puts out a massive amount of heat. Make sure your tunnel’s ventilation and cooling can actually handle the rise in ambient temperature. If you don’t, you might find your support frames warping. Also, double-check your wiring. If your breakers aren’t rated for the total amperage of a wide-format array, you’ll want to upgrade those before you flip the switch.
