Here is the struggle when you’re silk-screening glass: you have to bake the ink to get those crisp, clean lines, but if you aren’t careful, you’ll shock the glass and end up with a pile of expensive shards. It’s a tightrope walk. That’s where fast-response shortwave IR heaters come in. Why speed actually matters Most heaters are sluggish. They take forever to warm up and even longer to cool down. Shortwave IR is different. These lamps hit your target temperature in seconds. This lets you “flash-dry” the surface of the ink before the rest of the glass even realizes it’s getting hot. It stops the ink from bleeding or shifting around, which keeps your patterns looking sharp. The “Hit and Run” approach It’s all about balance. If you bake too slowly, the ink spreads and your edges get blurry. If you go too aggressive, the glass cracks. We set these heaters up to deliver a massive burst of heat in a very small area. You trigger a quick thermal spike to set the ink, then kill the power instantly. I like to call it the “hit and run.” The ink bonds tight, the edges stay crisp, and the core of the glass stays cool enough that you don’t have to worry about structural failure. The tricky parts Now, it isn’t just “plug and play.” These high-wattage tubes pull a lot of power. You can’t just plug them into a wall outlet and hope for the best. You’ll need a solid PID controller and high-speed SSRs to handle the cycling. If your switching is slow, you’ll overshoot the temperature and ruin an entire batch of panels. And a quick tip: keep a close eye on your conveyor speed. Everything has to be synced perfectly with the lamp’s duty cycle. If the line slows down for even a moment, the glass soaks up too much energy. That’s how you get distortion or, worse, a break.
